Recreation Therapist

RecCare, Inc. is a privately owned company providing community based recreation therapy support for individuals with developmental disAbilities in Philadelphia and surrounding counties. Currently, we are looking for full-time and part-time Recreation Therapists to join our team.

We operate seven days a week in a virtual work environment allowing our staff to have a flexible schedule contingent on client's needs. We are looking for individuals who are able to

  • Travel throughout Philadelphia and surrounding area to support our clients.
  • Flexible to work on Saturdays, Sundays and some evening hours .

The examples of Essential Functions and Responsibilities are:

  • Assists, guides, models and counsels within the area of healthy social and recreational behaviors and choices according to the support plan, taking into account clients' functional, nutritional, allergic or behavioral restrictions.
  • Assists with formulation of clients' individualized activities.
  • Prepares progress note for clients to document client behavior.
  • Participates in initial and ongoing in-service training.

  • Client focused with great customer service and dedication to outstanding care for individual with profound disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in a positive and professional manner in personal contacts, by telephone and in writing.

  • Dependable with flexibility and patience to handle sensitive situations.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's or higher in recreational therapy, special education and/or any other degree with a combination of related training, education and experience. Have a copy or can procure a copy of diploma or transcript.
  • Experience with aquatics, music, arts and crafts, etc. is a plus.
  • A current valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Current possession or ability to obtain criminal, PA child abuse, First Aid, CPR, and other documentation.
  • Ability to lift, support, and assist clients including the ability to drive a 7 passenger van. No CDL necessary.
  • Have his/her own cell phone, access to a PC and the ability to use various software programs.
  • Access to reliable and fully insured car maintained in an excellent working condition.
  • CTRS preferred.

There are mileage allowance and reimbursement plans available for our employees. You must attend the full day mandatory new employee orientation sessions and four internal professional development trainings a year.

Brinton is located in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania Delaware County and is seeking a creative and highly motivated team player to serve as Recreation Director. The qualified candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree in a related field; will be certified by NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or by NCCAP, as an Activity Director Certified (ADC). Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is highly preferred. At least two years of leadership experience in a long term care setting is required. Additional qualifications include: a strong customer focused approach to service delivery; an intrinsic desire to work with elders in a sub acute and long term care environment; and, the ability to communicate effectively within the interdisciplinary team and advocate for the value and benefit of recreation services. The Recreation Director is a member of the interdisciplinary and the management team of the nursing center. The Oregon State Hospital Rehabilitation Services Department employs approximately 50 staff who provide services to individuals with mental illnesses in adult, forensic and geriatric programs. Services include Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy and Physical Therapy. The Oregon State Hospital (OSH) provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill adult specialty populations from throughout the state. Inpatient services are currently licensed at 681 beds on 19 hospital units and residential services at 96 beds on 3 units. These 22 units function on campuses in both Salem and Portland, Oregon.
